Here at NonDoc, we wanted to compile our favorite and most frequently utilized resources for anyone searching for public information in Comanche County.

Comanche County is the state’s fourth-largest county, with Lawton as its county seat. Three municipalities are included in this page: Cache, Elgin and Lawton. Just north of Lawton is Fort Sill, a United States Army base and major employer and attraction to the area. Leading news publications for the area include KSWO, KCCU, the Lawton Constitution, the Southwest Ledger and the Southwest Chronicle.

File open records requests

The Oklahoma Open Records Act requires public bodies to respond to requests for documents or information. Such requests can be made by any citizen, not just journalists. The act has exemptions. Some Oklahoma state agencies have direct links on their websites. All Oklahoma state agencies are required to have a designated individual handling open records.

But do us a favor: Don’t just flood agencies with broad requests fishing for random information. Be strategic and narrow in your requests, as a limited number of staff are processing everyone’s submissions.
