Art Hobson started out to be a jazz musician, obtained a music degree, discovered he was not that talented and switched to something else: physics. He published a college physics textbook for nonscientists, Physics Concepts and Connections. He retired in 1999 after 35 years of teaching and practicing physics at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
